Patchwork is a sweeping new American musical told backward through generations of one family. Beginning in the aftermath of 9/11 and reaching back to the Underground Railroad, it moves between intimate family drama and pivotal moments in American history, tracing how love, prejudice, faith, and survival echo through an old Delaware farmhouse.
At its center are the quilts—made, inherited, hidden, and passed down. As their stories emerge, fragments of one family’s history assemble into a portrait of a country still struggling to understand what it has inherited.

THe Human Condition
Standing in the farmhouse he has unexpectedly inherited, Michael wonders whether the events that brought him and Mary together are part of something larger. Mary offers a simpler answer: whatever mysteries shape the human condition, they are here because they have chosen to love one another.

1918
Abraham’s memories drift between a childhood game with his brothers, Bobby and Matty, and the battlefield where both of them were lost. Celebrated as a hero after surviving the Battle of the Marne, he returns home paralyzed and haunted—trapped in the guilt and trauma that will follow him for the rest of his life.
